Finally, after being toasted under the sun for quite some time, the mural for 

Foro Cultural MUJAM is completed!

The title: The band salutes the Desert // La banda saluda al Desierto

The inspiration: Folk art, toys, animals, alebrijes, the naïve, mirage, old town bands, and the mighty Desert. // 
El folklore, los animales, los juguetes, los espejismos y alebrijes, las bandas de pueblo y el gran Desierto

Here is the process... it took me a while since the wall has so much texture and the sun was frying my brains like crazy....

Aquí el proceso que me tomó más de lo esperado ya que la pared estaba excesivamente porosa y cada que iba a pintar se me chamuscaba el cerebro bien gacho.... 

They are coming, the band of toys is coming, but don't let them fool you,
it all might be an illusion....

Vine ya, viene ya marchando la banda de juguetes,
saludando al Desierto

Divers searching for stars

Like a diver searching for stars in the ocean, the new year pushes us to reach out and connect, look for new opportunities and adventures.

Amigas // Girlfriends

 

From cigar boxes, to books, doors and drawers I made some illustrations for a Women's Art Exhibit with Alexandra Bloom, Marsha Shaw and Gina M. Contreras.

I used the 'surrealist method', just started painting random shapes to start building up whatever creatures came into my mind.

The Legendary Clarion Alley

 In the heart of the Mission District, this alley has been for over 20 years the passageway that takes pedestrians for a trip though colorful, mesmerizing street art.

The Clarion Alley Mural Project was created in 1992 by the CAMP group and it's been a space were artists share and express their take on social issues through images and graffitti.

This past Saturday, October 20th was the big celebration of it's 20th anniversary: the Clarion Alley Block Party 2012.

Ana Aranda and myself were invited to collaborate and we did a live painting mural during the event!

Don't forget to stop by and take a picture with DIVERSIDAD, a piece inspired by nature, animals, totems and living in harmony!

Precita Eyes Muralists

I've been volunteering at Precita Eyes Muralist for the past couple of months.

I love working in the store, the people who work there are fun and loud, it feels like a family and they play latino music all day long...

Here are some bags I painted for them.  This is a non-profit organization so all the money the store makes go towards the creation of more murals and events for the community.

Don't forget to visit the store, they have great quality acrylics 

and lots of colors !

Upcoming exhibition: Running plants

A series of new paintings and prints by illustrator Ana Aranda and myself will be showcased in the fundraising event that will
take place in Berkeley Marina, alongside with the association One Heart World-Wide  http://oneheartworld-wide.org/

 One Heart World-Wide helps pregnant women in rural communities in Mexico and Nepal
to decrease unattended home births and prevent maternal and newborn deaths.

Currently they have been helping the Tarahumara community in México to cope with the serious hunger problems from the past months.

For this collaborative project Ana Aranda and I have been working on recycled/reused and found objects as well as experimenting with printmaking techniques.
