Murals

Murals are such an important part of San Francisco's personality and is amazing the amount of urban artists constantly creating more and more!

During the months of September and October I was fortunate enough to get involved in the restoration campaign for the historic Women's Building : MaestraPeace mural.

A group of women mentor a younger generation in the art of mural making and allowed us to fix and repaint their monumental art piece.

The mural was painted in 1994 by Juana Alicia, Miranda Bergman, Edythe Boone, Susan Kelk Cervantes, Meera Desai, Yvonne Littleton and Irene Perez, and many helpers.
Special thanx to them for sharing the knowledge!

Here are more links to the restoration process....

Other murals that I like a lot are the ones of Jet Martinez that can be found all over the city, he is originally from Mexico but lives in San Fran with his family.

Amigas // Girlfriends

From cigar boxes, to books, doors and drawers I made some illustrations for a Women's Art Exhibit with Alexandra Bloom, Marsha Shaw and Gina M. Contreras.

I used the 'surrealist method', just started painting random shapes to start building up whatever creatures came into my mind.

Come visit the exhibit!

Ramones: Gabba Gabba Hey

One of my pieces is part of the fifth Susanita's Little Gallery show, a tribute to the Ramones.

Susanita's Little Gallery and all the artists in the show make a collaboration with Acción Alegra, an ONG devoted specially to offer education and sanity to children in need from Togo, donating the 20% of the sales from the exhibition.

Come visit the gallery and let me know what do you think of the art?

I made a Monotype with Acrylics, a psychedelic experimental look for the song You are gonna kill that girl

FRIENDSHIP

Each of us bears the imprint
Of a friend met a long the way,
In each the trace of each
- Primo Levi

Do you remember the day when we screamed so loud
and flew away together?
It was a shared dream.

Tlalocan

Since ancient times, many mesoamerican and south american cultures celebrated on a specific day the memory of family members who passed away and left this world. This was mainly to keep them alive in their minds.

The Aztecs had a special conception of the after life, they had different layers of Upper and Lower worlds were, depending on the way a person dies, they will remain for eternity.

If a person were to die drown or struck by lightning you would go to the Tlalocan, the place of the Lord of the Rain: Tlaloc.

Calixto Robles invited a group of artists to participate on the 5th Annual Day of the Dead Exhibit at Puerto Alegre.

Come join us for a special celebration on Tuesday October 30th from 3pm til 5pm!

The Legendary Clarion Alley

In the heart of the Mission District, this alley has been for over 20 years the passageway that takes pedestrians for a trip though colorful, mesmerizing street art.

The Clarion Alley Mural Project was created in 1992 by the CAMP group and it's been a space were artists share and express their take on social issues through images and graffitti.

This past Saturday, October 20th was the big celebration of it's 20th anniversary: the Clarion Alley Block Party 2012.

Ana Aranda and myself were invited to collaborate and we did a live painting mural during the event!

Don't forget to stop by and take a picture with DIVERSIDAD, a piece inspired by nature, animals, totems and living in harmony!

THANX FOR VISITING!

Precita Eyes Muralists

I've been volunteering at Precita Eyes Muralist for the past couple of months.
I love working in the store, the people who work there are fun and loud, it feels like a family and they play latino music all day long...

Here are some bags I painted for them.  This is a non-profit organization so all the money the store makes go towards the creation of more murals and events for the community.

Don't forget to visit the store, they have great quality acrylics
and lots of colors !

Exhibit: Running Plants

On June 28th  Ana Aranda and myself had a fundraiser exhibit in Berkeley Marine alongside One Heart-World Wide to help Tarahumara and Tibetan communities prevent birth deaths.

Our main focus was to use recycled materials such as drawers and cigar boxes.
We did Monotypes and linocuts as well!

We thank everyone for their support and we are looking forward to have this exhibit once more with new pieces.

Thanx for visiting!!!!
